Diversity & transformation
Transformation is part of our founding purpose
Since 1979 we have worked to make the law an instrument of democracy. That commitment extends to the make-up of our own firm.

A firm that reflects the country it serves
Cheadle Thompson & Haysom is a Level 1 B-BBEE contributor. More than 55% of our directorship is Black and over 30% of our directors are women. Approximately 70% of our professional staff are Black.
Our procurement, mentorship and candidate attorney programmes are all designed to widen access to the profession, and our practice areas — labour, constitutional, administrative and public sector law — put us at the centre of South Africa's transformation agenda.
Recruitment and development
We recruit candidate attorneys with strong academic records and a demonstrated interest in using the law to advance democracy and fundamental rights, and support them through structured mentorship.
Pro bono and public interest work
Our lawyers act for trade unions, civil society organisations and public bodies, often on matters that shape constitutional and labour jurisprudence.
The Bheki Mlangeni Scholarship
Established in memory of Bhekisizwe Godfrey Mlangeni, our scholarship supports law students who share his commitment to justice.
